IEC Oratory Showcase 2016
On Thursday 17th November, 2016 Lurnea IEC hosted the oratory showcase. The day's program began with a choir by Lurnea IEC singing the Australian National Anthem and then onto official program. Around 300 students came from all participating IECs, that is Bankstown IEC, Beverley Hills IEC, Cabramatta IEC, Chatswood IEC, Chester Hill IEC, Evans IEC, Fairfield IEC, Holroyd IEC, Kogarah IEC, Marrickville IEC, Marsden IEC, Miller IEC, Warrawong IEC in Wollongong and Lurnea IEC. There were two participants from each IEC who spoke for 2 minutes. Some of the topics they spoke about were, "Taller or Smaller? Which is better?", "Friendship", "The plight of refugees", "I am not a terrorist", "Pollution in the world", "How can I become confident?", "Overcoming adversity" and "My village" to name a few.
Following the speeches, all students and staff were invited for an Aussie BBQ, mixed with outdoor entertainment. Everyone enjoyed the dances from our Samoan dance group who performed the Hakka, a fusion of their traditional dance and Bollywood. Our IEC Choir group also sang melodious tunes. And to finish the day with a bang, we had Dauntless Movement Crew to showcase their Parkour/dance/acrobatic skills for everyone. They were entertaining!!
Ms Christine Tiekle, Advisor from the NSW Department of Education, Multicultural Education and Equity and Mr. Nick Sandreiko from the NSW Health, Department of Priority Programs Unit and Social Policy Branch were the two VIPs who graced the occasion. Joining them were the Principals, the Head Teachers and some of the teaching staff from the other IEC's were part of the fun-filled day.
Wonder how the Inter-IEC Oratory Showcase will be like in 2017??!!!
